Mrs Tele'a Haiku

Rock our World is a global project that has over 30 schools from around the world participating. Pt England School started taking part in 2008. Rock our World is focusing on poetry this year.

There is a kind of poetry called Haiku. The first line is 5 syllables and the second line is 7 syllables. The last line has the same amount of syllables as the first. 3 lines!! Easy! Here is one of our first Haiku's we have written and it's about Mrs Tele'a. Maybe you should write one for yourself.

Mrs Tele’a
Long beautiful silky hair
Cool, great and pretty.

Presenting at MIT

Here's a movie I made about going to MIT to present. I had lots fun there!

Camp Respect

Have you camped at your own school? One hundred and sixty five year 5 and 6 students did. 3 days this camp lasted. During that time we have done a variety of actives. Cooking, swimming and more!

Camp sounded really exciting when I heard we were going to The Lagoon. This was what I was looking forward to doing. Swimming is fun and entertaining to me.

After experiencing skating it turns out I was enjoying it. Surprising really. I’m not a good skater but after some help and practise I got the hang of it.

Camp was filled with laughter, lots actually. But I think the funniest time was when my friends and I had a Language Challenge (it’s a game when someone says a word then everyone else has to say the word in their language, first one who says it wins). “Bubble Gum” Thea cried, I quickly shouted “Gumballo”. Everyone starred at me and laughed.

My goal for camp was to be a good leader. I think I did a good job because my co-leader and I got our group ready in time and to all sit up. That scored us lots of points!

Camp was really fun!! Looking forward to next year!!

Space Nut Light Historical File

I have been reading a story set in the future called Space Nuts Light Speed by Simon Cooke. Just like in this story, I have written a historical file about an object we use on earth, that someone could read about in the future.

Back in the ancient times people use to use safety matches to light candles or start fires under their control. To light a match you must hold the match in the middle but firmly. Put the match at the end of the striker. After that quickly slide the match on the striker. Do not slide too hard or fast because too much pressure will break the match. Sliding it too lightly will not light the match. These days people use their very own fire zapper. It's a gun used to do all the things a lighter or a match can do.

2nd day of camp!

Camp has sadly already finished but it was great. The second day of camp was my favourite day of all. There were lots of things we did, but my most favourite was the Get Lost activity. Running around looking for clues was really tiring but discovering clues and doing weird things like drinking water upside down was one of the things I enjoyed. It was like the amazing race but better!

Yr 5 and 6 camp

Camp is in 2 days, pretty soon I could explode with excitement.

What I am looking forward to the most is going to The Lagoon. Swimming is one of the things I like to do so that's why I am excited about going to The Lagoon.

Camp isn't as exciting as it sounds, I'm actually quite worried about the camp concert. I'm not really a fan of performing.

Being a good camp leader is what I need to do, taking care of my team and being responsible too.

Presenting as an Ambassador

Meeting the Mayor of Auckland was truly an honour. He was quite impressed with our presenting. The mayor wasn't there alone listening to us. There were also the people from Sunday News. And others too. Here's the link to see it. I forgot to mention that this was the first time we presented.

Picnic

Try guess where we went on Friday? I’ll give you a clue....... we get to go to our beautiful improved beach. Well, it’s not a school trip. Okay, I’ll tell you, it’s the Pt England School picnic.

Running to the beach my mum followed behind me and my friend (Thea). The nice water cooled us off. Playing with some clay was also what we did. Right after we finished having fun in the water we dried our feet and went back to the sandy sea shore.

Thea, my mum and I went to the grass to relax. Lying down we looked up and starred at the sky. We talked as we calmly tried to relax. Since of course there was lots of laughter and chatter happening. Even though we couldn’t relax I still had fun!

All day it was fun! I spent some time with my mum. Once again it was fun.
