Free Easter Eggs

As you are aware, Easter currently here in New Zealand. Chocolate eggs, bunny rabbits and more are everywhere. Pt England was so lucky to be given boxes of Easter Eggs from some really generous people. Each child in Pt England was able to get 20 chocolate eggs. I'd just like to say THANK YOU!

With these 20 chocolate eggs, I shared it with my family, friends and even the bus driver! It was really nice to be given free eggs. With those chocolates, I shared the Easter Spirit. Once again, Thank you so much to the people who provided the chocolate eggs. HAPPY EASTER!

What do Easter Eggs have to do with Easter?

Many people know the Easter Story. And you may or may not believe it. But I personally do, the question is how the heck do Easter Eggs relate to this. During Easter, you see chocolate eggs, decorated eggs and bunny rabbits. Haven't you wondered how eggs have to do with anything?

Well, from my own research I found out that the egg symbolizes rebirth and new life. This has been a tradition for hundreds of years. In other cultures it was believed that the earth itself hatched into a giant egg.

Another belief is that the egg represented the empty tomb when Jesus rose again. That's why the egg is hollow.

Eggs became band during Lent in the past, so Easter Sunday became the traditional time to use them once again. From this, it led to many people giving eggs, usually decorated, to their friends and servants.

Origainally, real eggs were used to decorate using bright colours to represent Spring. Decorating eggs, different cutures had their own ways. Such as Germany and Austria where they used green eggs on Holy Thursday.

This is just what I think. There are more than one reason maybe you know.

Waves the Surfing Dog Narrative

People say that I, Waves, am the best dog surfer in the country. Jackie, my owner, and I were practising as usual for 2 hours a day for the Annual Dog Surfing Competition. My owner is so relentless. Winning and money is all he loves, his greed nearly cost me my life.

“Come on, Waves! You better surf or it’s back to the kennels!” Jackie warns me. Instantly, I dart to my surfboard and professionally paddle my way out to sea. Awaiting a good wave, my ear twitches, I hear the wave approaching..... a giant wave. Coming my way, I bark at it. Smoothly driven by the water, I feel free in the air as if I am gliding weightless. My tongue is out and I am barking joyfully.

Wind in my fur, I close my eyes and sprays of water splash on my face. But the water feels cool and serene. I slow down and I am in the tube. Nothing can compare to being in the tube. It is so majestic and beautiful. Water flows over my head. Suddenly, I lose my balance and fall into the wave. It collapses over me like a wall of bricks.

Twisting and turning, I sink slowly. My vision is blurry, everywhere is dark blue. Looking up, I seem to be so far away from the surface. Bubbles pop and float up. I squirm around, but it doesn’t help, it only makes me sink faster. Burning for air, my lungs feel like they are going to pop out. Even though I knew I wouldn’t make it, I take a breath. Water rushes into my body and darkness engulfs me. At my last glance, I see my owner swimming towards me... Then everything is black.

“WAVES!! WAVES!” I hear my owner shout with misery. I open my eyes and choke out water. Luckily Jackie was there for me, full of joy and happiness, I lick his face. His arms wrap around me like a big warm blanket. Against his chest, I feel his heart racing. “Back on the board!” he demands. WOOF!! I bark back angrily.

Earthquake in Motutapu

As you may know there was an earthquake at Motutapu. Exactly at 4.05pm, there was a 3.9 magnitude which was 5km deep. Also at 4.01pm was a 3.1 magnitude and this was 6km deep. Here are the experiences from 3 people (Kaycee, Lisia and me). Displayed on this picture are three red spots, this is to represent where these three people have been. For me, I was at home watching TV.

This was created also for Extension. We kinda copied the New Zealand Herald but I would say we were getting ideas.

Hawaii

Hawaii..... such a beautiful place. Palm trees waving to the whistling wind. Wind in my hair makes me feel level-headed, as if I am the only person in the world. Living in my fantasy land, I started to move to the sound of the chirping birds like I was on a rocking chair, listening to a song of lullabies.

“Maddie!”, I clicked back to reality and saw the beautiful Tunnels Beach (Kauai). Just the perfect place for snorkeling. “YAY!” I yelled as I jumped out of the car. Instantly, I dropped my towel onto my sand. Straight to the beach I went, the sand kicked onto my legs. Right on my toes, the water washed onto the shore. “Madeline! Don’t go too far!” my mother shouted. Nodding my head, I immediately dived into the cool serene water.

Opening up my eyes, bubbles floated up to the surface. Gliding weightless, fishes quickly swam behind the corals and rocks. Swimming onto one of the rocks, it was very smooth and long. My body settled onto it like I was a mermaid. Suddenly, little fishes popped up in front of my face. Their fins and their tails moved so fast. It was as if they were asking me to play with them. “HEY!” one shouted in my ear. "WHAT!?" I think to myself.

5 Week Reflection

Tyla-Marie&Gloria 5 week Reflection from Team 5 PES on Vimeo.

Do you remember when my friends and I made a movie about what we wanted to do in 2013? If you haven't, here's the link. Anyway, we had to look back on the past 5 weeks and reflect on it. Some of the questions were: What's going well? What still needs work? What's next? Here's what Tyla-Marie and I created! Hope you like it!

100 Word Paragraph

Driving speedily on the gravel road, my car bumped along. “Slow down!” Delijah growled. BUMP! BUMP! The car suddenly stopped. Frustrated, my sister hopped out. “Great! There’s a flat tyre”. CRACK...... I heard a distant sound coming from the fog. Out of nowhere, I heard whining sounds like a chainsaw throatily grinding into something. Glaring deeply into the dark, Delijah walked into the mist. “Wait up!” I said. We hear terrifying noises echoing through the whistling wind. Unexpectedly, something hit my head. With my vision blurry, I looked around to see a dark tall figure. Who is this mysterious man?

Einstein Poem

Here is a poem that Kaycee, Tyla-Marie and I made. We had to make something creative and to explain what Einstein once said. I guess you can say, we simplified his quote. Hope you like our poem.

How weird are us humansFor we don’t know the reason of life
Although I think I have a hunch
We might just be a bunch
of people here to please each other
Making us feel happy just like daughter and mother

For life is not long
We shall live it not right nor wrong
The things you do, affect me inside
Not to mention also the outside

Although they are unknown
Destiny binds us together for we have grown
by the ties of sympathy

The ideals that have lighted my way
“And time after time given me new courage” I say
To face life cheerfully and focus on the good things
Like Kindness, beauty and truth
Which can value more than a million rings.

BY TYLA-MARIE, KAYCEE AND GLORIA

Here is Einstein's quote:

How strange is the lot of us mortals! Each of us is here for a brief sojourn; for what purpose he knows not, though he sometimes thinks he senses it. But without deeper reflection one knows from daily life that one exists for other people -- first of all for those upon whose smiles and well-being our own happiness is wholly dependent, and then for the many, unknown to us, to whose destinies we are bound by the ties of sympathy. A hundred times every day I remind myself that my inner and outer life are based on the labors of other men, living and dead, and that I must exert myself in order to give in the same measure as I have received and am still receiving...
The ideals that have lighted my way, and time after time have given me new courage to face life cheerfully, have been Kindness, Beauty, and Truth.

Burnt Down

Here is another short story I wrote. Hope you like it.

Sobbing in the corner of my living room, my eyes shot around the room watching my house burn to pieces. I had left the oven on and I can see it was a mistake. Smoke blew around in the air. If the fire didn’t kill me, the smoke would. With my heart beating quickly, my curtains withered and turned black as the fire overtook it. Furniture started to melt, parts of the charred ceiling fell down, trapping me.

“HELP!” I screamed helplessly. I hoped my dog, Caesar was alright. Suddenly, I heard his barks of misery echo through the house. Through the fire, I saw him across the room, whimpering for me. OH NO! Jumping to my feet, I leaped onto the other side of the living room. As I heard the crackle of the paint on the wall chipping, fire burnt my leg. Pushing blocks of wood a side, Caesar barked happily at me.

He ran into my arms. Vigorously licking my face, I hugged him. The warmth of his fur comforted me. At least the last moments of my life would be with my best friend. When my hopes were up, I heard footsteps. Grasping for air, I saw a firefighter with protection on. “They’re over here!” he shouted

2 men followed behind him as they grabbed Caesar. The firefighter opened up his arms as he lifted me off the hard ground. Breaking through out of the ashes, the firefighter put me down next to Caesar. Caesar licked the firemen, thanking them. I smiled as someone put a blanket over me. A glass of milk for me and a bowl of water for Caesar. Sighing, I looked at the fireman. “Thank you” I mouthed to him.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!

Today, as you may know is the 10th of March. This means....... it's my birthday!! What's better is that I was born on a Sunday and it's a SUNDAY! Out of all my birthdays, I think this one was the best so far.

Sitting in the living room, I heard someone pull up in the driveway. Through the window, I saw my cousins get out of their car. Filled with excitement, I ran out of the house and to their car. To my surprise, they brought their dog Nala, who I adorably love. "You brought Nala?" I asked confused, "Yup! Nala is here to see you on your birthday too" my aunty, Soana replied laughing.

Along with them, they also brought KFC and a cake. Setting the cake on the table, Soana lit the candles. "Come on! Blow the candles!" my mum said. Crossing my fingers, I made a quick wish and blew the candles out. "HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!" my family sang. Smiling at them, I teared up a little. Honestly, I wasn't really expecting to get a cake.

You may be wondering what I got as my presents. What I received was a $50 iTunes voucher. And a jacket, jeans and a shirt from JayJays. I gotta say, my family coming together was enough of a present.

The Car Crash

Here's a short story I wrote. I guess you could say I was bored so I thought why not write something.

On my right my daughter was talking to me. Trying to focus on the road and at the same time listen to her, I squinted my eyes and saw a sign which read ‘SUNNYDALE LAB, 20 MILES’. Turning back to my daughter, she screamed. I looked forward and saw a truck. Opening my mouth to shriek, nothing came out, my throat was incredibly dry.

CRASH!! With the tires screeching, I felt the impact on my body. My seatbelt felt like it tightened on my stomach. As the car flipped over onto it's side, cars started to beep their horns and my ears started to ring. Compared to my car, the truck seemed unharmed. Smashed to smithereens, the glass shattered onto my face, leaving cuts. A pang of pain shot up my leg. My eyesight went blurry, my whole body went numb. In the distance, I heard ambulance sirens then I blacked out.

“Hurry! Doctor, we’re losing her!” I heard talking. With my eyes open, I looked around and saw all these nurses and doctors. Abby, my daughter was holding my hand tightly. “Mum! MUM!” she shouted to me. “MUM!!”. Her voice faded away and my hand slipped from her grip. I closed my eyes as tears rolled down my cheek, sinking into my t-shirt.

“ABBY!!” I wailed. Panting, I sat up straight on my bed. “SHHH” I heard someone calmly say to me. Sweat dripped from my forehead as I saw my daughter next to me. “SHH..... Don’t worry!” she said trying to comfort me. “Where am I?!” I asked, confused. Abby had bruises around her body and 2 huge cuts. One on her leg and one on her head. Her cut immediately caught my attention. “What happened!? Who did this?!” I demanded. “Calm down.......”. From what I could see, I was wearing a hospital gown. Pulling the drapes aside, the doctor came in. “Good, you're awake, there doesn’t seem to be anything wrong. Apart from 3 broken bones, you’re free to go in a week.”. “Thank you doctor.” I replied. He nodded and exited.

“You should probably rest.” Moaning, I lay back trying to get comfortable. Relaxing, my muscles were so tense. “UGH!!” I groaned. Dozing off, I wished this was a dream so I could wake up and forget the whole thing. "Everything's going to be all right" Abby said brimming with optimism.

Black Hole Narrative

Walking through town, I passed stores selling food, jewellery, pets and more. With my coins clinking in my pocket, I ran down the street bumping into strangers. Slowing down I staggered onto my knees, “PSST” I heard someone say. Carefully getting up, I limped to the unknown man, I noticed he was very tall and wore a big black coat. He also wore a hat which covered his face.

“PSST” he whispered again. “How about I give you something worth a million dollars but all you’ll have to pay is $20?”. I knew better than to take things from strangers but this really got me thinking. “What do you have in mind?” I asked curiously. A big evil smile crept on his face. As he put his hand in his coat looking for something, I stepped back cautiously. Pulling his hand out of his pocket, I could see he was holding a piece of paper with a black hole in the center. My excitement crashed as fast as a jet when I saw that it was only a piece of paper. I knew it could only be a rip off.

But this dealer wouldn’t take no for an answer, he lowered the price to $5 and I was pretty impressed. So I thought “WHY NOT!”.
After buying the paper, I wondered what made it million dollar worthy. Once I got home, I had a good look at the paper. Looking at both the back and the front, I was struggling to find anything special about it at all. Disappointed, I lay the paper on the counter, I grabbed something to drink then put my cup on top of the black hole. Suddenly.......

My cup went straight through the hole. Surprised I snatched the paper to see if there was anything under but nothing was there. I put it back on the counter and I put my arm through the black hole. Discovering this amazing power had me delighted yet afraid of it’s abilities. “HEHE!” I thought cunningly.

Taking the paper, I imagined all the possible things I could do. An idea came in mind and it was very devious. As night fell, I sneakily waited outside a bank. Not thinking at all, I stuck the paper to one of the gates protecting the bank. I moved back to get a running start. Sprinting, I dived through the black hole and tumbled onto the hard concrete. Turning to the gate, I put my arm through the thin bars and took the black hole. Unlocking the bank door, I swung it open. There, in the corners of my eyes, was a giant safe containing all the riches and money in the world.

So the paper wouldn’t fall off, I duct taped it to the safe. Expertly, I started to steal stacks of money. Greedy for more, I reached in when suddenly, an alarm went off. Lights started to flash and there was a loud ringing. All exits were blocked but I couldn’t care less, I had a black hole which could go through anything. With my bag full, I tried to take the black hole when the duct tape pulled me back. When I looked at my hand, I saw that I had ripped the paper in half.

In the distance, I heard police sirens. Astonished, I dropped my bag and desperately tried to put the black hole back together. Soon it was too late. “I’M DOOMED” I sadly said to myself.
